Long Term Effects of Imperialism

The age of Imperialism is over, but its effects linger in our modern world. We live in a world of nations. but not all those nations are not equal. Severe gaps in wealth exist between "the developed world", and the less developed nations in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, and the less developed areas of Asia, and Africa.

What is development?  Development is a measure of the quality of people's lives in a country.
We use developmental indicators to measure development

Examples:

•Life expectancy   /•Esperanza de vida al nacer, total (años)

•Infant mortality rate (for children under 5 (out of 1,000 children)/

•Literacy rate for adults/ Tasa de alfabetización, total de adultos

GDP per capita/ (The average income in the country)
INB per cápita, método Atlas (dólares corrientes)

Question 1: What can these numbers tell us about peoples lives?

Task: Go to the world bank website to get data about these countries:
France / Francia
Niger
Bangladesh

English: http://data.worldbank.org/country

2. List the rates for each of the developmental indicators above?
 3. What does that tell us about the level of development in the country?
4. Can you find a photo online that can demonstrate the country's level of development?
